“ĐÀO HOA TRE” PROJECT

“Đào Hoa Tre” is the short name for project of vocational training and development of handicraft in the Northwest area of Thanh Hóa province.

The intervention area of the project is in 6 communes: Thiên Phủ, Thanh Xuân, Lương Ngoại, Thiết Kế, Điền Trung, Thiết Ống of 2 districts Quan Hóa and Bá Thước. In these 2 poor mountainous districts, income of local residents is mainly from agriculture and forest exploitation with low rate of educated workers. Moreover, province and district authority do not have any specific education course for processing forest products. Therefore, people’s skills of processing bamboo luong are limited, and they do not bring about regular income for them.

Facing this fact, besides main activities, LDP also test others. On that basis, “Đào Hoa Tre” was founded in order to help farmers in the Northwest of Thanh Hóa to diversify products, improve income through strengthening skills and processing techniques of bamboo luong products.

Objectives
• Intensifying techniques, skills of processing bamboo, luong, rattan and other bamboo species
• Diversifying products to adapt with market changes
• Developing craft villages

Specific activities
•Intensifying techniques, processing skills for farmers
+ 120 households/5 groups are trained with bamboo processing techniques
+ 75 young people are trained with vocational education, meeting requirements of local processing units
+ 2-3 products are made for stable market

• Diversifying products to adapt with market changes
+ 15 people representing 5 groups are trained: management, markerting and arrangement
+ Monthly update of market information
+ Visit and discuss with enterprises inside and outside province

• Improving vocational training capacity of local training units
+ 75 people are trained in 3 sessions with participation of local training units
+ Combining training -enterprise –customer to reduce cost and improve effectiveness of vocational training
• Developing handicraft villages + 60 households are trained with the help of farmers with good techniques
