WHO WE ARE?

Vietnam is one of the countries having rapid economic development in the region and all over the world in recent years. However, the rapid development of economy has increased social inequality, especially the difference between plain land and mountainous areas, urban and rural areas. The poor in mountainous and rural areas became vulnerable in a changing economy.

Understanding this fact, with the aim of fighting against poverty, inequality, family violence, children malnutrition...for 20 years now, Gret has been implementing many projects in remote areas of Vietnam to improve living standards and awareness of people through research and transfer of technology.

Since 2005, Gret started the implementation of "bamboo luong value chain development project” ("LDP") in 5 poor mountainous districts in the North West of Thanh Hóa, including: Bá Thước, Lang Chánh, Ngọc Lặc, Quan Hóa, Thường Xuân. This region has large area of natural forests and bamboo plantations, which is convenient for the development of agro-forestry. However, population density of this region is low; among which majority are poor ethnic residents with low average income.

LDP project helps structure and develop comprehensively the bamboo value chain through assisting farmers in their production, organization and processing on the spot, at the same time design a reusable intervention methodology which is socially and environmentally responsible.

Donors of Gret: French ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), IFC-MPDF, Oxfam Hongkong (OHK) and other private donors.

LDP is implemented in 2 phases:
Phase 1 (from 2/2005 to 8/2006) with budget of 315 000 USD
Phase 2(from 4/ 2007 to 3/2010) with budget of 268 000 USD
